In this movement to support a more localized, hands on, equitable, community scaled food system there are many characters. The diversity and abundance of the people involved is something to celebrate as the movement has far to go.
There are characters in this movement who fundamentally understand this and position themselves to share, educate and promote in such a way that demonstrates the principles of the overall movement in an exemplary way.
Milkwood is one such organization.
If you haven’t come across Milkwood yet, let me be the first to say – you are totally missing out! Kirsten is prolific in connecting and promoting not only what goes on in their farm just outside of Mudgee NSW but also supporting the broader food movement.
The Milkwood Farm is not only a working farm but also a demonstration and teaching space for permaculture courses (include PDCs), natural bee keeping, organic market gardening, fementation, mushroom cultivation, aquaponics…. and the list goes on. Excitingly for those that are a bit city-centric many of these courses are also held in Sydney, so check out the courses for a location near you.
I’m yet to visit but every time I receive a Milkwood newsletter and those beautiful photographs pop up filled with lush vegetation and ripe foods I know I need to book in a trip to northern NSW!
Thanks Kirsten and the Milkwood team for this support, and be sure to check out their blog and facebook page to keep up to date with what is going on, on and off the farm!
